I provide personalized in-home piano and guitar lessons for children, teenagers, and adults in Del Mar and Carmel Valley. Lessons take place in the student’s home, eliminating the need to drive to a music studio. Students also learn on the same piano, keyboard, or guitar they use for practice throughout the week.
Availability depends on your location, preferred lesson time, and how your home fits with my existing teaching schedule. Please contact me with your ZIP code and preferred days to confirm current availability.
Every student has different musical interests, abilities, and reasons for taking lessons. I personalize instruction according to the student’s:
Some students benefit from a structured method-book approach, while others are more motivated when familiar songs are incorporated into their lessons. My goal is to provide enough structure for students to make steady progress while keeping music enjoyable and personally meaningful.
I provide in-home piano lessons for young beginners, older beginners, teenagers, adults, and returning students in Del Mar and Carmel Valley.
I primarily teach using the Faber Piano Adventures method series. This curriculum offers different learning paths for young beginners, older beginners, and adults. It introduces musical concepts gradually through lesson material, technique, theory, and performance pieces.
Piano lessons may include:
Although the Faber series provides a structured foundation, students are not limited to their method books. As they progress, I encourage them to suggest songs and musical styles they would like to explore. A personal connection to the music often makes practicing more enjoyable and helps students remain motivated.
As a professional piano tuner, I can also help piano students and their families better understand the condition, care, and maintenance of their instrument.

My in-home guitar lessons are adapted to the student’s interests and goals. Guitar students often begin with a particular artist, song, or style in mind, so I incorporate their musical preferences whenever the material is suitable for their ability.
Depending on the student, I may teach through a combination of:
Lessons may cover open chords, chord changes, strumming, rhythm, melodies, riffs, scales, lead playing, fingerstyle techniques, music theory, songwriting, and playing with other musicians.
Students can learn on an acoustic or electric guitar. If you are choosing a first instrument, I can offer general guidance about finding a guitar that is comfortable, playable, and appropriate for the student.
Visit my Guitar Lessons page for additional information.
Children and teenagers learn best when lessons provide both structure and encouragement. I break new material into manageable steps and provide clear assignments for practice between lessons.
For younger children, lessons are adapted to the student’s age, attention span, and developmental readiness. Parents are welcome to observe, particularly when a child is just beginning.
Teenagers often have specific songs or artists they want to explore. I welcome their suggestions and use them to reinforce technique, rhythm, music reading, and other important skills. If a requested song is too advanced, I can simplify part of it or use it as a longer-term goal.
Adults are welcome to begin an instrument for the first time or return to music after years away. No previous musical experience is necessary.
Adult students may want to read music, learn favorite songs, understand chords, accompany themselves while singing, improve their technique, or simply make music an enjoyable part of their week. Lessons can be adapted to your goals and available practice time.
You do not need to practice for hours each day to benefit from lessons. Consistent, focused practice—even in shorter sessions—can lead to meaningful progress.
